April 2018

Alderman’s Corner

Play Ball! The White Sox Home Opening Day is tomorrow, April 5th and we are all hoping for another World Series Championship. At the very least, we’ll have a winning season that is exciting and prosperous, especially for our local businesses. Don’t forget to pick up your White Sox stickers and passes at the 11th Ward Office, 3659 S. Halsted (check our website Ward11.org for office hours this week).

If it is baseball season, that also means street cleaning. It started on Monday, so please check the street cleaning schedule on our website or the City website for parking restrictions. We have been busy preparing for baseball season here in the Ward. Our Streets and Sanitation crews have been cleaning throughout the Ward and our lead artist from our 35th Street community mural has been out touching up the mural. As you walk or drive under the viaduct on 35th Street, the mural is always a reminder of our community coming together to make our Ward the best Ward in the City.

Commissioner Daley and I are looking forward to our Citywide Clean and Green on Saturday April 21st. Volunteer sign up is open and all you have to do is call the Ward Office. So please pitch in to keep our neighborhoods clean. We are focusing on beautifying our parks and viaducts throughout the Ward. Please encourage your neighbors to join us.

In conjunction with the Clean and Green, we will be starting another of our viaduct murals on the 40th & Wallace viaduct. Working with our Art Committee on the design of the mural, I am very excited for the weather to cooperate and we can get started on the 21st. The mural honors our Veterans and a reflection of our hard working communities. All residents are welcome to participate. We will be coordinating with our local schools, senior clubs and Veteran groups to join us on our community painting days. This was such a fun day when we did the 35th Street mural two (2) years ago and we look forward to another great community event.

Please continue to keep our Ward looking great by keeping your property clean. I look forward to seeing some of you participate in our Citywide Clean and Green. As always, please call our office at 773254 6677 if you have any questions, comments or concerns. Go White Sox!
