At Wednesday’s City Council meeting I voted to approve the $7.8 billion Budget for 2016. This Budget includes a $543 million property tax increase that is entirely dedicated to pay the Police and Fire Pension. While this was a challenging decision, I believe it is the right decision for our Community. Voting yes to Mayor Emanuel’s budget puts all of us on a better path to see improvements in our communities across the City. I appreciate the feedback from many of you and your support during the course of this Budget. We would all like to see safe and clean communities and have the City services that we deserve. This is why I voted in favor of investing in Chicago’s future.
