As you may know, Mayor Emanuel introduced his 2016 Budget on Tuesday, September 22nd. You may find a copy of his budget address HERE .
The Mayor’s proposal consists of shoring up the police and fire pensions by increasing property taxes by 543 million over the next four years. As part of increasing policing, the Mayor’s proposal reassigns over 300 police officers from desk duty to patrolling our streets. The Mayor also proposed expanding after school programs and youth employment.
For the next month, my City Council colleagues and I will be going through the budget process. The schedule for the next two weeks can be found HERE .
The City Council will be working hard to review and evaluate the Mayor’s proposed budget. We will be asking questions to ensure that the 2016 Budget is best for all of us.
I will host open office hours this Saturday, October 3rd from 10:00am-12:00pm to update you on the budget process, obtain feedback and hear concerns from all of you. I encourage you to stop in.
