Dear Residents, Thank you for the opportunity to serve you as Alderman of the 11th Ward. It is an honor.
This is my first “Alderman’s Article.” I will be writing an article every month to provide our neighbors with an update of what we have been doing each month, as well as inform everyone about what is new in the 11th Ward.
We have been making a few changes at the 11th Ward office. The office is located at 3659 South Halsted Street. It looks a little different, as we have done some cosmetic changes. We also have changed the office hours to be more accommodating to our working families and busy schedules. The new hours are:
Monday 8:30 A.M to 7:30 P.M
Tuesday – Friday 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M
First Saturday of Every Month 9:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M
We are very excited about our new website Ward11.org. We are now receiving constituent service requests via our website. It is very convenient. However, if you want to call or come into the 11th Ward Office, please do so. We average about 580 service requests per week. Your concerns and suggestions are appreciated.
As I committed during my campaign, we will have an open and transparent approval process for all zoning matters. Before I make a decision that affects our neighbors, I will be hosting a meeting to allow discussion prior to making my decision. We recently hosted our first community meeting regarding a zoning approval for a newly proposed restaurant at 1000 West 35th Street. The operator is a husband and wife who currently own and operate a restaurant in Wicker Park called Antique Taco. The community was overwhelmingly in support and we look forward to the restaurant opening by the end of the year.
Horizon Contracting and Reliable & Associates, two new companies to the community, are about to break ground on their next corporate headquarters at Root Street and Emerald Avenue. These companies are creating approximately 60 jobs for our community, as well as temporary construction jobs. In addition, Bar Louie is moving into the former Morgan’s space on Maxwell and Halsted Streets. This will be a great addition to the other terrific restaurants in the community.
Finally, we are also busy with a few capital improvement projects and working to attract new businesses to the 11th Ward. The following projects have been addressed: If you have a city service request that needs to be addressed:
Service Location Status
Sewer Project 34th Street Aberdeen & May Streets Completed
Water Main Repair Work 30th & Wells Street Completed
Viaduct Renovation Peoria Street between 14th and 16th Streets Completed
Sidewalk Renovation 33rd Street @ Canal Street Viaduct Completed
If you have a city service request that needs to be addressed, please feel free to visit my website at Ward11.org, send me an email at [email protected], call my office at 773-254-6677, or stop in at 3659 South Halsted Street. We look forward to working with you.
