Happy Birthday, America! America’s Independence is certainly a reason to celebrate. Today we come together as Americans and celebrate our nation’s independence and freedom. We thank those who have served and continue to serve our nation. I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July.
I thank you for your patience as we continue to do a number of different projects throughout the entire 11th Ward. I am sure you have noticed the new stop signs on 31st and Shields. I was honored to join Commissioner Daley, Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) and residents for the installation of these new stop signs. This intersection was in need of a 4-way stop to ensure safety for vehicles and pedestrians.
I also joined Commissioner Daley along with the residents of Senior Suites at 28th and Halsted for the new installation of the refuge island. Meeting with seniors I would hear how difficult it was to cross this wide intersection. Working with CDOT, we are working to install a refuge island which calms traffic and allows for pedestrians to wait inside this area. We are also working to install a crosswalk at 15th and Morgan. Construction for this project has started last week and should be completed by mid-July.
Hopefully, if you have taken a ride through Canaryville you notice the new LED lights and newly resurfaced street on Union Ave from 47th- 49th. We will also be installing new LED lights on Wallace from Root to 43rd Street as well as repairing hazardous sidewalks as needed on Wallace from Root to 42nd Street. We will continue to announce project schedules as they become available. If you have any questions or issue with a project, please do not hesitate to call my office.
In addition to the many projects, we have many events taking place throughout our Ward that I hope you will take advantage of. Whether it is a movie or concert in the park, there are great events for the entire family. The schedule of events can be found on my website (www.ward11.org) or by downloading the chiparks app on your smartphone. Commissioner Daley and I will also be hosting our Second Annual 11th Ward Fishing Derby at Palmisano Park on July 21st from 9am-1pm. If you are interested in signing your child up for this event please call the Ward office 773-254-6677.
On behalf of my family, I wish you a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July! “Service to the public is our program. We appreciate your suggestions and criticisms.” As always, if you have any suggestions, comments, criticisms or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to me at 773-254-6677.
