As we wake up this morning, we are all disturbed by the chaos and violence that occurred in our City last night.
First, thank you to our CPD, CFD, OEMC, and all City employees. We also want to thank the State Police and all other agencies for their work.
What was a peaceful demonstration with citizens expressing their outrage over the death of George Floyd, was hijacked by criminals. When we as a nation should be coming together, to work together, to prevent incidents like the murder of Mr. Floyd, those efforts get lost when vandals and criminals use the 1st Amendment right, to protest a wrong for their own personal criminal acts.
We cannot allow these outside antagonists and criminals to disparage George Floyd’s memory. CPD and the lawful protesters should stand together to oppose those that are trying to destroy our City.
The Mayor’s Curfew Order remains in effect again tonight (9:00 pm to 6:00 am). Furthermore, the Central Business District (Roosevelt Road on the South; Division Street on the North; Dan Ryan/Kennedy Expressway on the West; and Lakeshore Drive on the East) will be closed. Only those that live or work within those boundaries will be allowed access. Anyone else who is stopped by the CPD, within those Central Business District, will be arrested.
We strongly encourage everyone to stay home, staying in our neighborhoods. We must not forget we have a Stay At Home Order in effect, and should be limiting our social interaction.
As always, we encourage you to be nosy neighbors and report any suspicious activity. Now more than ever, we ask that you keep an eye out for your neighbors.
We continue to have the brave women and men of the 1st, 9th and 12th Districts protecting our communities. When you see them, please give a wave and let them know how much we appreciate them.
If you need any City services or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the Ward Office via email, [email protected] or calling us at 773.254.6677.
We will get through these challenging times together!
