CHANGE IN GARBAGE SERVICE DAY
Dear Alderman Thompson,
Beginning August 22nd, the Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation (DSS) will begin making adjustments to refuse collection routes within your ward in an effort to ensure residents are receiving the best possible refuse collection services.
As a result to these route adjustments, there are a minimal number of households in your ward that will receive a new day of service. These service delivery changes will increase crew productivity and provide the most cost-effective, quality service possible to your residents.
Recycling collection weeks cf service will stay the same on all routes. However, recycling collection days for households that receive curbside blue cart collection will change to match their garbage collection day. Households receiving alley blue cart recycling services may receive a change in the day their recycling is collected, so we ask residents to leave blue carts in the alley during their entire service week to ensure colbection.
By making adjustments to refuse collection routes across the city, DSS is redirecting 10 crews to the Bureau of
Forestry to help eliminate the backbe of tree trimming requests by the end of 2016, as well as five crews to Rodent Control to reduce residents’ wait time for services from seven days to five days.
Attached is a map that outlines the current refuse collection service schedule for your ward as well as the new service schedule for your ward effective, August 22nd. I ask that you please share this map and information with your residents by posting on your website, social media and in your newsletter. In addition, crews will be out placing notice stickers on carts in advance of the change to help inform residents.
Please let me know if you have any questions or if you require additional information.
