Ald. Thompson celebrates buildout of new playground at Barbara Jean Wright Homes
CHICAGO (July 21, 2016)–Ald. Patrick D. Thompson (11), and other local leaders cut the ribbon on a brand new playground at the Barbara Jean Wright Homes on Thursday.
Ald. Thompson secured the location for the KaBOOM! playground at the Barbra Jean Wright Homes, although another location was suggested. Chicago Community Development Corp and Radio Flyer were key players in building the playground. They worked with KaBOOM!, a non-profit organization whose mission is to “bring balanced and active play into the daily lives of all children…in America.”
“The KaBOOM! design process tapped into the imaginations of kids from our community,” Ald. Thompson said. “It was an absolute pleasure to help bring this playground to life. And there’s still plenty of summer left so the kids will really get to enjoy it.” “I would also like to commend Radio Flyer for having their entire company be a part of the buildout day. If it wasn’t for them and other members of the community this would not have been possible,” added Thompson.
Barbara Jean Wright is shared by the 11th and 25th Wards.
The new playground is situated in the 11th Ward. Ald. Thompson particularly thanked Ald. Danny Solis’ office for their committed partnership on the project.
