On Tuesday May 24, 2016 Alderman Thompson hosted a community meeting at St.
Barbara School Hall regarding the proposed I-55 Managed Lane/Noise Wall project.
IDOT representative’s presented this State of Illinois proposal to create an express lane
on I-55 and a slide show explaining the proposal and fielded questions from residents.
In connection with an express lane, federal law requires residents living within 300 feet
of I-55 to decide whether they would like noise barrier walls constructed along I-55 near
their homes.
All residents and property owners within 300 feet of the proposed project should have
received a survey from IDOT. These residents and owners are the only people who are
allowed to vote on whether to construct noise walls along I-55. The survey must be
completed and postmarked no later than June 2, 2016 in order for your vote to
count. As mandated, if IDOT does not receive 33% of the surveys from the community,
IDOT will then proceed with a second mailing (certified). This second mailing would take
place over the next few weeks.
Alderman Thompson would like to reiterate that the outcome of this proposal is entirely
up to all residents in receipt of the survey. He encourages the residents to speak to
their neighbors and remind them the survey must be postmarked no later than June 2 nd .
